Overview:
Deloitte, together with Shell, the Society of Decision Professionals, and the University of Massachusetts, Boston, are pleased to invite you to attend the Decision Analysis Affinity Group (DAAG) conference in Boston. DAAG focuses on and unites practitioners in DA application and implementation in industries ranging from Pharmaceuticals, to Military, to Oil and Gas, to Manufacturing and High Tech.
This is DAAG’s 20th year and in addition, it is also the Golden Anniversary year of the field of Decision Analysis. We will be celebrating throughout the year, culminating with a gala event in San Francisco on November 8, 2014, sponsored by the Decision Analysis Society and the Society of Decision Professionals. In this spirit, this year the DAAG conference will include a panel discussion of the past, present and future of the field, as well as a keynote address by Professor Ron Howard of Stanford University.
SDP Workshop prior to DAAG:
With great pleasure and pride SDP announces that this year’s workshop ahead of the annual DAAG meeting will be given by Ronald A. Howard, Professor & Director, Decisions and Ethics Center in the Department of Management Science and Engineering, School of Engineering, Stanford University.
Workshop Description
Fifty years ago, Ron performed the first Decision Analysis and all DA practitioners would recognize the approach today. We have learned a lot since then but the DA foundation has passed the test of time. Ron will speak about the fundamentals that every decision professional needs to practice as well as his responses to the many challenges, "paradoxes", and competing theories that have emerged over the last fifty years.
Who should attend this workshop?
This workshop will be of interest to the new practitioner and the seasoned professional alike. The course provides a first-hand opportunity to experience Ron's Socratic method of teaching. Bring your questions.
Our Instructor
Ron Howard is well known as one of the founders of the decision analysis discipline. He has been Professor in the Department of Engineering-Economic Systems (now the Department of Management Science and Engineering) in the School of Engineering of Stanford University since 1965. His books on probabilistic modeling, decision analysis, dynamic programming, and Markov processes serve as major references for courses and research in these fields. He is also a co-founder of the Strategic Decisions Group (SDG).

Transportation on the Olde Towne Trolley:
On Wednesday evening (March 26), we have planned a fun tour of Boston followed by a welcome dinner. We begin with a 90 minute Olde Towne Trolley tour of the historic city of Boston, recalling events such as Paul Revere’s ride (not on a trolley) and the Boston Tea Party (the original Tea Party!). Don’t worry, the trolley is heated. This will be followed by dinner in the heart of the city. The trolley tour will cost $37 per person and will include transportation from the hotel (which is not in the heart of the city) to dinner and from dinner back to the hotel. If interested, sign up for the trolley tour now during the registration process, as we will need to book in advance to ensure sufficient seating.
Meals:
A continental breakfast will be available for all Sessions. Lunch will be available for the DAAG sessions on March 27 & 28. A DAAG welcome reception/dinner on Wednesday will be sponsored by Shell. Thursday's reception/dinner will be sponsored by Deloitte.
