Deloitte Power & Utilities Accounting, Financial Reporting, and Tax Update
Tuesday, November 29, 2016 (Day 1)
At this one-day seminar, Deloitte’s energy specialists focus on industry technical accounting and tax issues to assist participants in preparing for calendar year-end accounting, reporting, and tax requirements. Participants may choose either an accounting and financial reporting update or a tax update.
The Accounting and Financial Reporting Update will include presentations by Deloitte specialists and industry thought leaders. This session will cover topics such as securities and exchange commission (SEC) developments and trends in SEC comment letters, recently issued and proposed accounting standards, and current tax developments. After attending this seminar, participants will be able to better interpret and apply accounting, financial reporting, and tax rules to current industry issues.
The Tax Update includes presentations by Deloitte specialists regarding federal and state income tax topics unique to the power and utility industry, regulatory reporting for income taxes, and other income tax and financial accounting for income tax subjects relevant to large corporations. This update will assist participants in applying recent and pending tax and accounting developments in their tax planning and rate filings.
This meeting also offers an excellent opportunity for participants to network with their peers and Deloitte practitioners at an evening reception immediately following the update.

The Evolving Role of Controllership: Challenges and Opportunities
Wednesday, November 30, 2016 (Day 2)
Expectations of the finance organization continue to shift towards requiring increased influence and involvement in strategy creation and execution. Consequently, the roles of accounting professionals from Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) on down are evolving, raising the stakes for expanded capabilities to support strategic organizational initiatives and delivering more proficient, effective, and insightful service.
Day two of the seminar is tailored towards energy accounting professionals, including those charged with responsibilities over finance, accounting and reporting.
The agenda will focus on providing insight to participants into those challenges and opportunities and how to address them. Topics will include:
- Trends, challenges and priorities of controllership for Power & Utilities companies
- Managing and interpreting the increasing amount of data to gain business insight and ensure integrity of information
- Successfully implementing new accounting standards for revenue recognition and leases
- Strategy and implementation of innovative/advanced capabilities supporting the controllership function (for example: technology, close optimization and automation, and advanced analytics)
After attending this seminar, participants will better understand the issues and opportunities currently facing the controllership function and leading practices that help you successfully manage these issues and opportunities.
